It's been snowing here all morning
It's the first time ever, i have seen snow like this in April
Is it because of global warming?? |

Where's Costal?
I'm sure this will all be linked to 'climate change' by the Scientific Taleban. Just about every change in the weather is now.

| I've seen snow and hail in June...snow in April is not all that uncommon up here in the north. |

| On another board I belong to, a poster who lives in North Dakota had to cancel plans for today because of a snow storm. |

| Snow. Four letter word to me. We've had snow this late in the year before. My brother was in Canada at a remote cabin in the woods and they had 14 inches of snow plus another 3 of ice. It's not unusual, just more random. |

| I remember many years ago having snow on the 4th July when I was working in Yellowstone Park. And not one of those annoyance snows of 1 or 2 inches either. Enough snow to knock out electricity and close roads. |

Well, it would sure be stupid to claim that an isolated meteorological event proves or disproves climate change. Especially as variability is large from one year to the other. You really have to look at the trend to get the picture here.
But generally speaking, it is not impossible that a "global" warming may result in "local" cooling. Local climate doesn't depend only on caracteristics like latitude, but also on athmospheric / oceanic influences - else the climate in Paris would be cooler than in Montreal... I'm not expert on these fields, though, far from it - but it is clear that warm currents do account for a large part for our "warm" winters in general, so if they were to be disrupted, it could get really cold in Western Europe. _________________ Sit on the banks of the river and wait for the corpse of your enemy. - Indian proverb. |

So what's the weather like in Italy, adrien?
Do you come from a mountainous region and do you have snow right now?
I have to say that I really don't believe this global warming nonsense. That is to say, I don't believe that mankinds contribution to it is as great as the scientists would have us believe. _________________ Girls are like phones. Actually, Ive been back in France for about ten days... I forgot to update my profile.
I've been in the North, in Turin and Milan. I don't think it's been snowing there recently - it's not cold enough in the plain, though the Alps may have had snow if the weather was rainy.
It's been snowing in France, in the North. Of course, not in Marseilles...
As for global warming, oponents to the theory claim that there has always been warmer and colder periods, and that solar variations account for the recent warming. But these natural sources of climate change are taken into account by scientists. They are mentionned in the IPCC reports. It doesn't seem to be sufficient to explain the current trends. In particular, computational models that take into account natural "forcing" can pretty well fit the temperature data till the mid-twentieth century, but need "anthropogenic" forcing to account for the recent evolution.
