The first faltering steps have been taken towards the reunification of Cyprus. The island has been divided since 1974 but it looks as though talks are finally underway to resolve the situation.

Yesterday's opening of a crossing in Nicosia met with some measure of success although, sadly, it did later have to be closed due to squabbles over Turkish Cypriot police presence.

I hope this hiccup will not prevent progress continuing and that the talks will be successful in the end.
