http://www.happynews.com/news/3282008/raul-castro-cubans-cell-phones.htm

Quote:
President Raul Castro's government is allowing ordinary Cubans to have cell phones.

The luxury was previously reserved for those who worked for foreign firms or held key posts with the communist-run state.

Friday's decree officially lifts a major restriction on daily life in Cuba.

It's the kind of small freedom many on the island have been hoping Raul Castro would embrace since taking over the presidency from his older brother Fidel last month.

Some Cubans previously ineligible for cell phones already had gotten them by having foreigners sign contracts in their names.

And this is supposed to be good news?????? Shocked

They'll soon change their minds when the whole country starts walking round with a cellphone permanently attached to their ears.

They're now also allowed to buy microwaves, computers, and DVD players, as well as staying in hotels that were formerly reserved only for tourists. Of course, most Cubans can't afford any of them. But it does sound like a step in the right direction to me - those restrictions seem ridiculous.

It seems a lot of Cubans already had cell phones anyway, (in others' names) so maybe Raul thought it a lot cause to continue the ban.

The really annoying thing is that this would all have been over decades ago were it not for America's illogical blockade.
