Ha! Beat you! (see my post above) That's my FAVORITE Shirley Temple movie - I always cry when she finds her father. And the scene where she dumps ashes on the snooty girl is hilarious!
I just ordered the complete Thin Man series of movies, which also comes with biographies of Myrna Loy and William Powell. And a boxed set of five Cary Grant comedies (I think those are all b&w, too). |

The Little Princess is such a classic, even though I was usually reduced to tears halfway through.
My husband does the best Cary Grant voice, except when it starts to mush into his David Bowie impression. |

| Yes, Bette Davis really kind of morphed into a suspense/horror actress in later years (as I mentioned above, she and Greta Garbo are my favorite actresses). I think Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? came first, and Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte (great role for Olivia de Havilland, too) came shortly after. Then there was The Nanny not long after that. Later movies (in color) included Madame Sin, Scream, Pretty Peggy, Burnt Offerings (loved that book!), Harvest Home (another good book), and Watcher in the Woods. An interesting change in direction. |

I love Bette Davis movies ... she really had something special about her.
Terry's uncle 'by marriage' Lazlo Willinger used to photograph a lot of the old Hollywood celebrities ... He preferred Bette 'in person' over Joan Crawford. It was of the questions I was able to ask him over the dinner table. |

How about Citizen Kane? There's a movie that was ground breaking in so many ways, truly a classic.
Inherit the Wind
To Kill a Mocking Bird
There are so many movies that while they were rather substandard in plot, the cast is what made them great. I'm a sucker for any Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart movies.
I also thought Good Night & Good Luck with George Clooney was a really good movie too. It certainly didn't need to be in color to make it's point. |

Citizen Kane also brings to mind that other great Orson Welles film, The Third Man.

One of my favourite B&W films is the original version of The Bishops Wife, starring David Niven and Cary Grant.
The remake starring Denzel Washington paled by comparison even though it was made in colour. _________________ Girls are like phones. We love to be held and talked to, but if you press the wrong button you'll be disconnected! |

That's my favorite Greta Garbo film! And, contrary to publicity, she did laugh in it, prior to Ninotchka (my 2nd favorite Garbo). |
