Yeah I've got a few mental pictures of people which I'm sure will turn out to be completely wrong.

For example: Wakey, I've always kind of envisioned you as being in your mid 30's, a casual dresser, average build/height, and with light coloured short cropped hair.

Don't ask me why I have that picture of you, I guess you just "sound" like someone who would look like that.

I'm 22, I tend to wear jeans and t-shirts, I'm about average height (not sure what exactly but less than 6 ft), I weight 10 stone, I have light brown to blonde hair. It's a bit untidy now, but when I have it cut I have it reasonably short but not too short.

Do you know, it's official Monster Raving Loony Party policy to turn that building upside down and use it as a billiards table?

I wrote an email to protect that building. I have the response to my email somewhere. I'll post it later.

The building was designed by one of my favourite achitects, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, also also designed Liverpool Cathedral and our famous red telephone boxes. I believe it is now a Grade II listed building.

Here we go. My email was to save the chimneys, actually.

The jetty would be revamped to provide for passenger river transport.

The chimneys are in poor condition and we, Wandsworth Council, had an application before us to permit their demolition and reconstruction. We are, of course, very much aware of the significance of the Power Station and recognise that the fate and future of the chimneys as an important element of the building is a serious matter. Our Planning Applications Committee, a committee of local councillors, considered a detailed report on the chimneys at their meeting last Thursday evening. They decided to grant planning permission and listed building consent for these works.

being able to see the anglican cathedral from my apartment, it seems to me that the power station was built with the stone left over from the cathedral (incidentally, when i graduate in July, thats where the ceremony will be held-the Anglican cathedral in Liverpool)

I post at an architecture forum and there is a thread on Battersea Power Station. The planning permission for the redevelopment has been in place since 1997....10 years! The site was recently sold and the new developers have shelved the £2 billion redevelopment plan, which included a leisure and shopping complex and offices. The new developers, Parkview International want to maximise profits, and by letting the site fall further into disrepair are trying to make Wandsworth council back down on the requirement of 35% affordable housing created on the site to maximise profits.

London - Battersea plans dumped

By Will Hurst

Foster, Viñoly and SOM in running for power station, as new owner prepares to dump Arup masterplan The new owner of Battersea power station is set to dump the Arup masterplan that was years in the making, and is holding a competition for a new masterplanner.

Despite Treasury Holdings' recent pledge to meet all architects responsible for detailed plans for previous owner Parkview International (News December 8 ), West 8, Ron Arad & Associates and Benson & Forsyth have yet to speak to the Irish developer.

Instead, Treasury subsidiary Real Estate Opportunities (REO), which bought the 15ha site in November for a staggering £400 million, has asked a range of international names to develop fresh ideas, under a veil of secrecy.

A source at one leading firm which decided against taking part in the contest said it was asked to sign a confidentiality agreement even before learning it was for Battersea.

Development director of Treasury Holdings, Rob Davies, confirmed the company had drawn up an unnamed shortlist of masterplanners believed to include Foster & Partners, SOM and Rafael Viñoly Architects.

'We took possession of the site on January 2, so it is still early days,' Davies said. 'We are talking to a number of masterplanners. We are assessing the options and what elements of the existing scheme should be retained and what parts should be modified.'

Previous developer Parkview - owned by Hong Kong tycoon Victor Hwang - spent 13 years developing an ambitious mixed-use scheme resulting in planning consent for two hotels, 140,000sq m of leisure and shops, 70,000sq m of exhibition and office space, concert venue, conference centre and 750 flats.

But Treasury's failure to meet existing architects on the scheme has heightened fears that redevelopment will be delayed yet again by new proposals.

'[The plans] were really close to realisation and very detailed,' West 8 partner Jerry van Eyck said. 'I'm disappointed that [Treasury] is putting together a shortlist and we are not on it. Planning approval is there, so I don't know what they are doing.'

English Heritage, which with Wandsworth council faced major embarrassment over the site's recent sale, confirmed it had yet to have a meeting with Treasury and was seeking one 'as soon as possible'. A spokesman said: 'We have chased for a date and are waiting to hear.'

Treasury has previously indicated it wishes to retain a mixed-use scheme but refused to comment on reports that it wants to increase the residential element.

Arup, was unavailable for comment and Wandsworth declined to comment.

The irony is that Sir Giles was Roman Catholic. Meanwhile, the nearby RC Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral was designed by another of my favourite architects, Sir Edward Lutyens, who was an Anglican!

The decision is, obviously, entirely yours but accept a word of caution from someone how knows. Like you, I felt fairly burnt out after my degree. I also went to uni straight from school and decided to leave it a year before doing my MA. That was over three years ago! I reckon it's now pretty unlikely I'll ever do it. Once you get a job and start earning money, trust me, you won't give it up. Then, eventually, you'll be so out of practice in terms of writing essays and such, you'll find the idea of returning to academia wholly unappetising. If you really want to do postgraduate work, personally, I would strongly urge you to do it straight away. I wish I'd applied to do my Masters' the minute my BA results were in.

It also depends the field of study. If it's business, then work experience is generally very beneficial before starting a master's or PhD. Some business schools require work experience before starting an MBA.

my daughter's housemate is doing that at the moment, which is why he's in London. She hopes he goes back from whence he came next year to do his M.A, or whatever it is, because he never washes and stinks the place out. My youngest daughter begins her degree this year...she's been accepted at every uni she's applied to, including Cambridge...I thought I'd get that in, might as well.

Congratulations to your youngest Lil. I went to Oxford myself... it was a day trip to visit a friend, but I usually leave that bit out if people ask.

Laughing Laughing

Seriously, I studied at the University of Sheffield and the University of Portsmouth. My degree path varied from Maths and Geography (Joint Hons) to Maths with Stats (Combined Hons) to Maths with Computing (Combined Hons). I never fancied any post-grad stuff other than a PGCE (teaching qualification) which I gave up on when I realised teaching was more like being a prison warden than an educator.

Funny, I wanted to be a drama teacher for years. I was a right 'luvvie' at school. Always in the school play, pantomime, that sort of thing. But, alas, couldn't get the GCSE maths, which is a requirement for teaching. I don't think I'd want to teach now, anyway. Certainly not under this Government. I no longer have any faith in the State education system and I doubt I'd be good enough to get a job working for a public school. I always enjoyed being on stage but I could never get my head round the theory. I hated 'The Method' and all that pretentious bollocks. I was always an unashamed character actor (you won't be at all surprised that the head of drama typecast me as your standard 'doddering old man' in just about every production we did - from 'Teirasias' in Oedipus Rex to 'Father Jack' in Dancing at Lughnasa).

Thanks...she lacks confidence in herself and will not be taking advantage of the offer. I'm very relieved as I don't give a damn about anything except that she be happy and content.
That's funny you should say that, blue..my middle daughter intends to teach drama since she came down to earth and realised that the London stage isn't waiting with bated breath to see her "Helena". The man who played the part of Samir in Corrie is one of her tutors and has impressed her mightily. So after graduating next year, she's going back to get the Dip Ed or whatever it's called now, so she can do it...preferably in Canada..at least that's the plan just now. She's left home and won't be coming back..I can't help but smile when remembering her telling me firmly that just because she was living away from home, didn't mean she was actually leaving home.

*BUMP*

I have moved this thread from Tell Us All About It as I thought this was a more appropriate place for it.

I have also put all the photos together in the 2nd post in alpha order to make them easier to find.

I use the phrase 'all the photos' very loosely as there are only 4!!

Now come on, don't you realise that if I ever have to report any escaped inmates I have to provide a mugshot. Cool

I don't believe for one moment that is a real baby photo of Juana. I think she googled it.

Although I think that baby might just be saying 'cuchi cuchi'. Cool

Laughing That's me, all right! And I guess I haven't changed much, either. Some years back I went to a party where we were all requested to bring a baby photo, and then they projected them and we had to guess whose photo each one was. That's the one I brought, and they all immediately yelled out my name when it was shown!

Juana, that may very well be you but I'm sure the police will never be able to pick you out in a crowd with that. Don't you have a more recent mugshot?

What about the rest of you. Don't be shy!

Sure, this one's more recent!

Laughing What makes you think I would want the police to pick me out of a line-up?

Well, if I escape, I doubt that I would want them to catch me! Razz

Maybe this one will help? It's a bit more recent.

Thanks for that Beth. I'm sure I recognise that right eye. Wink

I have slotted you in to your allotted place and made a few cosmetic adjustments to the photo. I hope you approve.

Juana, your last offering was indeed slightly more recent. Is this your final offer or is there an even more recent one? Cool

More recent, but still probably about twelve years or so ago:
