Firstly, no, I have never dressed my cat up in a costume, though I have been tempted!

This Japanese site, which contains some of the worst English translation text I've ever seen, recommends you not dress your cat up except for a funny picture.

Here're my favorites:

I wonder if the doctor prescribed ketamine for my cats after their respective neturering and spaying ordeals. I insisted that they give me something for me to take home, to deal with their post-op pain. Whatever it was, enabled them to go from hiding under the bed and hissing at everything, to frolicking and batting shit around in no time.

I've got to say that picture is an uncanny resemblance to my cat, their markings are almost identical

If you look at some of the other photos, I think you'll agree that a great many of the cats look extremely angry Laughing

Ready as if to pounce!

I'm pretty sure my cats would hate it if I did that.

Michele, did you have to put them in quarantine for six months when you moved to England? I would hate to have to do that, and I think my cat would be severely traumatized from being separated from me for six months, and wouldn't be the same cat after that. He has enough mental problems already! Cool

No, I sure didn't. The rules on that changed recently, and I was able to do the 6 months "quarantine" back in the States, fortunately! I picked my cats up within 3 hours of getting off the plane. My boy cat was a little shell-shocked but the girl kitty took it in stride. It's not cheap; I spent $2000 all told.

What does the six months "quarantine" in the States entail, Michele? I'd seriously consider getting a pet again if I knew we wouldn't have to quarantine it if we moved again.

It was a pain in the ass, but well worth it.

You'll want to read this site...
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/index.htm

You HAVE to do all of these steps...

March - the vet microchipped both cats, gave them both their rabies shots
April - 30 days later the vet took blood samples and mailed them to the only approved lab, in Kansas
April/May - vet notified me that the blood samples were acceptable rabies levels
October 4 - took cats in to have a deworming, flea treatment so they could get their health certificate
October 5 - took health certificate to the local USDA office for their stamp of approval
October 5 - took cat carriers to airport for pre-approval by Continental
October 5 - faxed paperwork to Continental's 3rd party pet reception company
October 6 - flew on Continental with cats in tow

I flew 1 day after they were eligible to go to the UK. You have to fly within 4 months of the eligibility date.

This is a good resource message board:
http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?board=60.0

They checked out fine!

Thanks for the info, Michele. I'll check out those web sites. Definitely an expensive pain in the ass but there's not much that isn't when you move to another country. Having them with you must make you forget the hassles.

There's a web site for nearly everyone and every situation, or so it seems, Michele.

What a good idea! I broke up with a guy once because I didn't think he liked my cats enough. Owning an animal is a lifetime commitment!

Fortunately, my fiance is more of a cat lover than I am, which I didn't think was possible. He spoils our kitties by feeding them whatever they want, several times a day, until he's satisfied they're fat enough. He worries over them like they're his newborn kittens he just popped out. Even when we go on an outing, we talk about how much we miss them. It's sickening! Laughing

Sounds like you need to either find a cat-loving couples club, Michele, or teach your cats to play bridge. Wink

Am I the only one to think that all this dress up thing is slightly ridiculous?
