...or just a minor isolated case which will be soon forgotten?
Still, at least it gives those hardworking staff a day off to get the Christmas Shopping started! _________________ .

Fact of the matter is MM that inflation is running at approx 5% and Civil Servants have had a pay rise of 2% IMPOSED on them with no consultation. Even though, a 3 year pay deal was accepted last time round on the understanding that negotiations would take place this time to agree a fair deal. Also, those who are on the max for their grade actually got no pay rise at all. The excuse given for imposing the pay deal was that there was no more money in the pot. However, they still managed to pay performance bonuses and award a hefty pay rise to top Civil Servants.
Don't forget we're not talking about top level Sir Humphrey Appleby's here. Just your average grass roots office workers.
FYI I will not be one of those striking next week, as in the job I do, it wouldn't affect anyone except me but I do wholeheartedly support those who will be striking on my behalf. _________________ Girls are like phones. I worked in the Treasury for about 6 years and the pay was low even in comparison to other Gov departments. It's a joke that you can be the same grade as somebody in another dept but have lower pay scales, so you have situations where say a Treasury payscale is £20k-£25k for a grade, the same grade in another dept - DEFRA & DfID spring to mind as being higher paid - might be £22K-28k. Treasury's excuse was 'leading by example'. Bollox.
Civil servants are in a no win situation - they get shafted paywise by the Gov, and lambasted as lazy buggers who don't know what a days work is, by the press. And as VG says, this is not high flyers we're talking about here, it's your average civil servant doing their job and trying to make a living the same as everybody else. |
