US rescue crews have airlifted some 170 people to safety from a remote village in the Grand Canyon after a dam burst following days of heavy rain.

Having visited the Grand Canyon I imagine this must be pretty scary for the people who live there as well as tourists and it must have been a tricky operation too.

I see the Colorado is a glorious muddy brown at the moment. It was a beautiful turquoise blue the first time we visited but we haven't managed to see it like that since.
